The problem
FTP is the annoying part of running an online league
OOTP’s Online League mode has no API. The commissioner uploads the league file to an FTP server, general managers download it, play their week, and export their team back to the same server. That’s the entire loop — and it only works if someone stands up an FTP server with exactly the right folders and hands out two sets of credentials.
Most commissioners end up buying shared web hosting, learning cPanel, and hand-creating FTP accounts. SimHosts is that FTP server, already configured.

How it works
Create your league
Pick a name, a subdomain, and your OOTP version. Provisioning takes about two minutes.
Paste your FTP settings into OOTP
Host, port 21, Passive mode, username, password. Hit Test in OOTP and in SimHosts.
Invite your GMs
Send invite links and quick-start codes. GMs never touch FTP settings.
Common questions
OOTP hosting, answered
- Does OOTP support SFTP?
- No. Out of the Park Baseball does not support SFTP (SSH File Transfer Protocol, port 22). OOTP connects over plain FTP or FTPS — shown in the game as "Secure FTP (SSL/TLS)" — on port 21. SimHosts serves both plain FTP and FTPS on port 21, so either setting works.
- Which FTP mode should I use in OOTP?
- Use Passive mode. Active mode fails behind most home routers. For League File Download and Team File Transfer, choose "Passive; Standard FTP" rather than TLS: your managers’ quick-start settings inherit your FTP Mode, and OOTP’s manager screens cannot do TLS. Report Upload can stay on TLS if you prefer.
- Why do my managers get "Error -201: Connect error"?
- Almost always because FTP Mode is set to Active or Default instead of Passive. Switch the manager’s FTP Mode to Passive and retry the export. If it still fails, confirm the commissioner used "Passive; Standard FTP" rather than a TLS mode, since managers inherit that setting.
- Do my general managers need their own FTP credentials?
- No. In OOTP, Game Settings is commissioner-only. Managers join with a quick-start code that you generate in OOTP and send them — SimHosts can email it for you. After that they use File → Online League to download the league file and export their team.
- Is there a free plan or a trial?
- No. Plans start at $5 per month for one league with 5 GB of storage. Billing is monthly through Stripe and you can cancel at any time from your account settings.
